Earthlike planet found nearby
Earthlike planet, Proxima b, found around Proxima Centauri 4.22 light years away. Check out all the good and bad possibilities including the possibility of taking a robotic look-see within twenty years http://bit.ly/rma_to_new_planet .
YA Book List: Vanishing Girls, Buzz Kill, Trouble is a Friend of Mine
After the Willamette Writers Conference in early August, I came away with notes from two agents who wanted to know what other YA mysteries my YA novel, Wasted in Waldport, was like. I realized I was not reading YA mysteries, because I didn’t want mine to be derivative, even subconsciously.…
Movie – ***+ The Secret Life of Pets (2016)
Although the evil rabbit took over the film, a step up as family entertainment with something for everyone.
Movie – ****+ Departures (2008)
Wonderful foreign film about an out-of-work cellist who goes home with his new wife and unexpectedly finds work as a funeral director’s assistant, a profession looked down upon in Japan.
Movie – ****+ Star Trek Beyond (2016)
Aside from impossible-to-believe asteroid density in space, a wonderful addition to the new Star Trek movies. Amazing CGI mixed well with the story.
Movie – ***+ Tarzan (2016)
Skarsgard and Robbie have chrisma as Tarzan and Jane, but communication with animals beyond the great intelligent apes who raised him seems to stretch the legend in order to simplify the plot. The CGI apes are great.
A travel moment in Corea, Maine
Movie – **** Pete’s Dragon (2016)
Beautiful re-make of the well-loved book, nicely cast, and CGI appropriately subservient to the story. Great for kids and adults.
Movie – ***+ Captain Fantastic (2016)
Entertaining within its strange premise that kids in a survival setting have the discipline to outlearn college students and love a completely dictatorial father.
