Book ****,***+ Doublesight and Memory Tower(2006-2007)
Terry Persun’s fantasy world where shape-changers are a common if misunderstood human variant, even between different clans of their own kind.
Book – The Keeper (2015)
Davis Baldacci’s YA fantasy adventure is a well-plotted quick read. Unfortunately, not the first of the series. Puzzles and plot twists abound.
Movie **** Beauty and the Beast (2017)
Surprisingly good adaptation with Emma Watson a credible Belle and Dan Stevens as Beast. No remake, however, will replace the magic of Jean Cocteau’s French 1946 classic.
Movie ****+ Colossal (2016)
Oddball masterpiece of fantasy/sci.fi. with Ann Hathaway returning to her hometown after disaster in N.Y. to unfinished business with Oscar, a childhood boyfriend. Unexpectedly a world-threatening battle between giant monsters in Seoul, Korea, is controlled by them from a sandlot in a hometown playground.
Book – Beastly (2007)
Book – **** YA love story playing off Beauty and the Beast in a delightful way. A very quick read.
Movie **** Ghost in the Shell (2017)
Well-made sci.fi. of cyber-enhanced Major, Scarlett Johansson, a created weapon. Despite controversy about the casting of Johansson in the original comic books Asian main role, she does an excellent acting job. I bought her conflict over her uncertain origins.
Spring fawn
Movie – ***** Galaxy Quest (1999)
Classic sci-fi comedy with Tim Allen and Sigorney Weaver. Every scene and bit part is played to perfection. Worth watching and re-watching.
Movie ***+ Power Rangers (2017)
Power Rangers (2017) After successfully introducing the main characters and giving them their powers, their characters are lost inside the machines they do battle in, becoming another episode of Transformers.
