Book – **** Swedish thriller by Joakim Zander that paints that paints a realistic tale of power brokers and the lengths they will go to control their secrets. A fast-paced quick read.
Book – ***+ A dark fantasy, taking the traditional beggar-thief to wizard journey but as a supernaturally empowered assassin. Clever writing—not for kids.
Inventive story of the troubled elderly Logan and the remnant of the mutants, but treaded too close to a John Woo film substituting knife slashes and their resultant carnage for the typical cascade of bullets and blasted bodies.
Great story of the math uncertainties of the early space race. Also highlights the blindness inherent in racial prejudice, especially in a business like NASA’s built on facts and sometimes split-second team interactions.
A lovely plot by Gabrielle Zevin. Her characters are drawn with humor and love. The book lauds the world of small bookstores and folks who must read.
Historical alien invasion featuring Matt Damon delivering an unusual twist to the search for the secret of gunpowder in China. Nice action and CGI.
